Gift ideas for a minimalist? Aren’t minimalists people that don’t want any.more.”stuff”?
I’ll admit. I’m a tough gift receiver. I’m a bit of a self proclaimed minimalist, as hard as that is with 2 toddlers and a teenager. More than one person has asked me if we’ve moved in recently since my shelves are less than half full. True story.
I prefer potlucks than birthday parties since receiving the gift of cooking less that day and not having to find a place to store trinkets is a total win-win in my eyes!
That said I understand it’s lovely to give people gifts and I love giving people gifts but don’t love burdening them with “stuff”. Gift giving is as much for the giver as it is for the receiver. But if you have minimalists in your life: What do you give a person who doesn’t want stuff?
Perfect gifts for a minimalist
A good rule of thumb is to give things that are either consumable, that you know they’ll need or things that are valuable that take up no space at all. The key is to stay away from trinkets and things they’ll have to dust around.
Perfect gifts to give a minimalist
Not very personal perhaps but definitely the most versatile. At our wedding we received several coffee makers we had to give away but those $20 bills in a card added up and were so useful for us at that time in our life.
People feel less awkward giving gift cards than money. It’s hard to go wrong with an Amazon gift card.
When friends bring me paleo treats or a meal I’m seriously in heaven. Especially since paleo takeout if you’re trying to eat pretty clean is practically non-existant. When my daughter was in the hospital I would have gone crazy without my food smugglers.
Digital books, music or movies
They don’t accumulate dust and they’re easy to take around in your kindle or ipad. As much as I love physical books I don’t love finding a home for them or the chore of dusting them off. That’s why lately my kindle is the shopaholic in my house. Plus, I love being able to carry my entire library with me on business trips and vacation!
If you’re an ebook junkie like I am there’s a twelve step program… just kidding! I do have an ebook of my own you might like (hint, hint) The Paleo Survival Guide: Getting Started with Paleo
I’ve also got plenty of other ebooks in my shop page.
You can even buy ebooks and have them sent directly to your friends and family!
Don’t make them take out the ugly candlesticks each time you go visit. Consider this my PSA 😉 Instead, give them plenty of reading and viewing material that they can enjoy while sitting by the fire this holiday season that will bring great value to their lives.
What are your best minimalist gift ideas?
